Valentine's Day: A wonderful Valentines Day Dance is scheduled for February 14th. You can dance to the music of Tuko John, or just sit and enjoy the music. Light refreshments will be available. Tickets are $5.00 per person and can be purchased from Jan Porter or Irene Wharton. Hope to see you there.
Toni Marie to Star in "Love Letters": Trail's West's resident actress, Toni Marie, is set to star along with Peter Herman in No Strings Theatre Company's annual production of "Love Letters" There will be two performances at the Black Box Theatre, 430 N. Downtown Mall, at 5:00 and 8:00 pm on Valentine's Day, Sunday February 14, 2010. "Love Letters" is a delightful two-character play which chronicles the life-long relationship between a man and a woman solely through their correspondence. It is truly a unique and imaginative piece which, in the words of the playwright, A.R. Gurney, "needs no theatre, no lengthy rehearsal no special set, no memorization of lines, and no commitment from it's two actors beyond the night of the performance." The letters, as the actors read them aloud, create an evocative, touching, frequently funny, but always telling pair of character studies. Refreshments will be served after the two performances. Tickets are $10.00 regular and $9.00 for seniors over 65. Reservations may be reserved by calling the Black Box Theatre at (575) 523-1223 after January 10, 2010. Reservations are highly recommended as space is limited.
To our Newcomers: Have you been to Welcome Coffee? The community holds a get-together on the second Saturday of each month so that you can meet your new neighbors and they can meet you! Please plan to attend at least one. And if you are not a newcomer, but would like to put some faces to those new names in the residents' directory, why not plan to come as well. Besides, what could be nicer than coffee, donuts, and friends?
zSouthernism: if you are from the south you know the purpose of milk gravy and grits. The purpose of milk gravy is to put on anything that tastes bad to cover the taste. The purpose of eating grits is to prove you are from the south.z
Hello Hot Dog Lovers: This is a summary of our financial activity since we started HotDog by the Pool in August 2007. We have bought a grill, grill cover, propane tank & refill every season, tow coolers, and many utensils to do our work. Every hot dog day takes about $200.00 to buy supplies. This activity has been growing since we started. The first one we had in July 2007, 25 to 30 people attended. Now the average is 80- to 95. The end of the 2009 season we had some excess funds. The committee suggested we donate ½ to the park activity fund which we did, and ½ to a worthy cause here in Las Cruces, this was also done, to the El Caldito soup kitchen. Their letter of thank you is on the bulletin board. They really appreciated this donation. We hope to be able to do this in the future. Thank you all for making this park activity so successful. Thank you to all who have volunteered their time and help. Harry the HotDog Chef

Sew Friends: Sew friends would like to congratulate Kay Weeks of Trails West. Kay is the winner of our 2009 raffle quilt. We will use the money from the raffle to buy materials for the quilts we make for teens in protective custody and in 2010 we will be taking part in a national year long project to make and send gift bags to our troops currently deployed in the Middle East. The bags will filled with items that have been most requested by our troops. We will also be making pillowcases for the New Mexico National Guard. We have comfort pillows available for our residents that may need them due to any type of thoracic or breast surgery. Contact me or the office if you are in need of one of them. And I just have to get in a sales plug; we still have our canvas bags available for sale at $1.00 each. These bags are great for gift bags, carrying items and storing your golf shoes. Thanks to everyone that purchased a raffle ticket and came to sew with us, we are a fun group and welcome everyone. Janet McKimpson.
